Mark and Dace: 7 Bridges

When Mark and Dace originally contacted me then mention something that really peaked my interest, not only as a photographer but as a lover of weddings and traditions

Dace is originally from Lithuania and during our consultation she told me about the tradition of crossing 7 bridges as a newly married couple. As the couple cross each bridge they perform 7 different rituals. These include things like burning a list of things they don't want to bring into their marriage, playing pooh sticks and committing to a lifetime of joy and happiness. How could I say no!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Mark and Dace decided to have a non traditional, intimate wedding. It was going to be just them, their two witnesses and Mark's son. Nerves were high at the registry office but as soon as Dace arrived they disappeared! Dace looked so beautiful in her black dress.

They said their I do's and we were off to visit 7 different bridges.

Bridge No 1:

The couple used this bridge to signify everything they didn't want to bring into their marriage. They wrote down everything they didn't want, anger, ex-partners, sorrow and burnt it. It was such a beautiful moment...until Mark dropped everything they needed to do this in river!

Bridge No 2:

Mark and Dace walked slowly across it dancing, laughing and twirling. Reminding themselves to have fun!

Bridge No 3, 4 and 5:

Sadly we couldn't get the photos we wanted to on these bridges as they were closed :-(. Each one would have signified another aspect of their relationship, we'll get them next time.

Bridge No 6:

Remember to nurture your inner child. Mark and Dace built paper boats and raced them down the river. The winner gets to be in charge of the relationship. Very high stakes here! Mark struggled to build his boat. But when it came to it Mark's boat won the race. Although Dace disagrees!

Bridge No 7:

Mark and Dace locked and padlock and threw away the key. Marking their connection together forever.

We retired to their venue at this point as it was getting cold! After warming up Mark and Dace had their first dance to 'pump up the jam'. Love this song!. Cut their cake and did a hand binding ceremony with their closest friends.

It was such a beautiful day! and one I won't every forget. Thank you Mark and Dace for allowing me to capture the memories.

If you want to check out for yourself the pictures from the day go on over to my portfolio. You can see the moment Mark dropped everything in the river!
